Student of the Month
Leland has set an important goal for himself: to graduate from Lovell High School. When Leland first moved to Lovell and started at LHS, he wasn’t sure what to think of us, but he stuck with us. We developed a relationship built on mutual respect and shared goals. He is committed to that goal and works toward it every day. His perseverance, improved attitude, and determination deserve to be recognized. His work ethic sets a positive example to those around him. He is always willing to take on the “relentless pursuit of an outcome” to pass his classes.
His teachers have also noticed his tremendous growth.
Megan Wilson shared, “It has been a pleasure watching Leland grow in his confidence since enrolling at LHS. I have no doubt he will accomplish his goal of graduating as an LHS Bulldog. With his positive attitude and ability to achieve goals, I believe he can do anything he desires in life.”
Jode Kraft said, “I really enjoy having Leland in my Personal Finance class. He is polite and gets right to work each day. He sets a good example for his peers and wants to learn.”
Nicholas Crosby added, “Leland has a great attitude and works very hard to stay on top of things and be successful at school.”
Mrs. Hernandez said, “Leland has such a fun personality, and I appreciate that he always tries his best and is willing to accept help along the way to meeting his goals. I’m so happy to see the progress he’s made the last three years.”
Mrs. Walker said, “Watching the change that has happened for Leland over the last few years has been awesome. In class, Leland has become a conscientious and teachable student who values learning and improving. I have thoroughly enjoyed having Leland in class.”
Ms. Teter said, “Leland is one of the hardest-working students I have ever known. He refuses to let anything keep him down and approaches every challenge with determination. His smile, quiet sense of humor, and calm, steady presence positively influence those around him. He is a natural motivator and an excellent example who encourages his peers to work hard and stay on task.”
Leland’s growth is a wonderful example of what can happen when a student remains determined and continues working toward a goal. We are proud of the progress he has made and look forward to watching him achieve his goal of graduating as a Lovell High School Bulldog.
Staff Spotlight
Carisa French is the Lovell High School music teacher and is beginning her fourth year inspiring students through choir, band, and musical theatre. Originally from Moroni, Utah, she loves Christmas because it brings her children home and gives her opportunities to create special memories with family, especially as she looks forward to celebrating the holidays with her grandson, who will turn two shortly after Christmas. Carisa enjoys both the mountains and the beach, prefers herbal tea, and is a self-described morning person. Despite a fear of heights, she once went parasailing in Mexico and considers a whirlwind weekend trip to New York, where she attended multiple Broadway shows, one of her favorite adventures. If she could share a meal with anyone, she would choose Gene Kelly, Dick Van Dyke, and Julie Andrews. One memorable piece of professional advice she lives by is that every hour of sleep before midnight counts for two after midnight, a reminder of the importance of balance and self-care.
Jeri Salinas is a special education teacher at Lovell High School, grew up in Basin, Wyoming, and is a graduate of Riverside High School, BYU, and holds a master's degree in special education. She is especially proud of being named District Teacher of the Year in 2018 and is currently learning the TEACCH Autism Approach to better support students on the autism spectrum. Jeri hopes to one day visit Patagonia, Argentina, and ride horseback through the Andes Mountains. She also notes an interesting personal practice: for the past seven years, she has met weekly with a friend to set health and personal improvement goals, using accountability to support her mental and physical well-being.
